Paolo Merli

Born in Milan on 24/06/1971, he graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia in March 1996.

After a year of national service with the Italian Red Cross and a year of internship with a leading engineering firm in Milan, during the academic year 1997/1998 he attended the MEDEA Master (Master of Energy and Environmental Economics) at Eni's Scuola Superiore Enrico Mattei in San Donato Milanese (Milan), graduating in June 1998.

At the present time he is Chief Executive Officer of the ERG Group, which he joined in 2006 and where he has held various positions such as Corporate General Manager and Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility for Investor Relations, Communication & CSR, Group Administration, Finance, Planning, Control & Reporting, Group Risk Management & Corporate Finance, Procurement, Human Capital & ICT and M&A.

He is currently a member of the Strategic Committee, as well as a member of other internal committees including the Management Committee, ESG Committee, Investment Committee, Risk Committee and Human Capital Committee.

In February 2022 he joins the Executive Board of Elettricità Futura as Vice-President with responsibility for wind energy.

From 2014 to April 2021 he was CFO and Manager Responsible for preparing the Company's financial reports.


Other positions held in the past

From Aprile 2014 to May 2021 he was in the Board Director of ERG Power Generation S.p.A. (of which he was Chairman from April 2014 to January 2017).

From October 2015 to January 2018 he was member of the Board of Directors of TotalErg S.p.A.

From January 2014 to January 2017 he was Chairman of ERG Services S.p.A., a cross-services company of the ERG Group, later merged into ERG S.p.A. on 1 January 2017.

He previously worked for around 7 years as a financial analyst covering the European Energy and Motorways sectors at Intermonte, a leading brokerage firm owned by the Monte dei Paschi Banking Group. At Intermonte he was also a "specialist" in ERG stock when ERG joined the STAR segment.

From 1998 to 2000 he worked at Snam S.p.A. (now the Gas & Power division of the Eni group) in the Large Industrial Customers Organisation Unit within the Commercial Department.

Outside work, his main passion is sport, in particular cycling (racing and mountain biking), running and skiing (alpine and cross-country). Over ten participations in the Maratona dles Dolomites, the NY and Valencia marathons, and the climb up Monte Rosa are among his best experiences.

He is married, with two children.
