ERG completes its third repowering project. Start-up of the 101 MW Mineo-Militello-Vizzini wind farm in Sicily

Genoa, 24 April 2024 – ERG has started energising the Mineo-Militello-Vizzini wind farm in the province of Catania, the third and largest plant in the Group's portfolio to undergo a total technological renovation (repowering).

The wind farm, of which the commissioning phase will be concluded during the next months counts, following the replacement of all existent aerogenerators with the latest generation models, on 24 4.2 MW VESTAS V136 turbines with a total installed capacity of 100.8 MW (compared to the previous 59 turbines of 850 kW each totalling 50 MW) and an estimated annual production of 234 GWh (compared to the previous 77 GWh).

The clean energy produced by the Mineo-Militello-Vizzini plant will meet the STMicroelectronics' power needs thanks to a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) (see press release issued on November 24, 2023).

Paolo Merli, CEO of ERG, commented: ‘We are very pleased with the start-up of the Mineo-Militello-Vizzini wind farm, the third and largest among the repowering projects completed by ERG so far. Repowering and PPAs continue to prove strategic tools in the energy transition process, which ERG has successfully integrated into its business strategy”.
