ERG has opened its first office in the UK in Edinburgh, planning investments for the long term
ERG, a leading wind power operator in Europe, and the leader in Italy, has opened its first office in the UK in Edinburgh as part of a major expansion programme.
The company is committed to investing in the UK renewables market and aims to contribute towards the Scottish Government's target of generating the equivalent of 100 per cent of Scotland's gross annual electricity consumptions from renewable sources by 2020, in addition to ensuring local communities benefits from its activities.
ERG currently owns wind farms with a total capacity of 1.8GW across Europe. The planned investment in Scotland follows the presentation of the industrial plan in March 2018 that foresees investments for 444 million of euro in organic growth in onshore wind abroad; split between France, Germany and the UK.
At present ERG has a secured construction capacity of 163MW in the UK, including the Sandy Knowe Wind Farm in Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries and Galloway with an expected capacity of 48 MW, Creag Riahbach Wind Farm, in the county of Sutherland, with an expected capacity of 79.2 MW, and Evishagaran Wind Farm in Northen Ireland with an expected capacity of 35 MW, all consented.
In Northern Ireland ERG has recently sold the Brockaghboy Wind Farm, with a capacity of 47.5 MW, construction of which commenced during the second quarter of 2016, came fully on stream at the end of 2017.
Mark Evans, Head of UK Business Development with ERG, said:
"We're delighted to have opened our UK office in Edinburgh, and plans are in place to invest for the long term and grow an operational portfolio in UK. The acquisition of Creag Riabhach is another important step and demonstrates our ability to invest to deliver projects purely on a merchant power business model.
ERG is already a leading wind energy operator in Europe and we are now eager to invest in Scotland, given the quality of wind resources, consistently with what is stated in the Business plan.
For our Scotland projects to date, substantial Community Benefit Funds have been defined for the local communities, in line with Scottish Government policy."
